My Royal Kludge RK61 Experience and What You Should Expect

Read my personal experience about the RK61 and see if this one is your next keyboard to love.

Snapshot

  • Product Name: Royal Kludge RK61 Mechanical Keyboard
  • Duration of Usage: 6 months
  • Basic Specs: 60% keyboard, 200 mAh battery, Type-C port, Red Switch, Bluetooth, wired, 2.4 Ghz (usb dongle) connections

Things I like about it:

The keys are soft to press. This is my very first mechanical keyboard and there was a bit of a learning curve. In about three days, my fingers have adjusted to the sensitive buttons.

Be careful though since on the first day, I keep on tapping other keys without my intention

The black version is gorgeous. It gives a professional look. But most of my desktop gadgets are black too, something about it that exudes seriousness. I’m serious.

Since it is wireless, I can place it any way that is comfortable for me to type. I can place it farther from me if I am sitting straight. Put it nearer the table edge if I want to slouch (not healthy to slouch).

Games? Yes it’s comfortable but I only play Dota 2. Not sure how it fares with other games. My nephew tried to play Roblox on my PC and he liked using the keyboard. Giving me cues like “Parang gusto ko rin po nito”. (I’d also like to have one).

Things I don’t like

Battery life

I’ve been using the keyboard for about 12 hours a day. And I had to charge it after about 28 days or 4 weeks. Sometimes intervals are longer. Do you think that’s reasonable? The battery capacity is only 200 mAh.

Just to compare, my Logitech membrane keyboard lasts about 6 months on a single AA battery. It’s also wireless by the way but only has Bluetooth connectivity.

Light Features

The light patterns. It gives me nausea. Of course there’s an option to simply put steady light just so you know. But to give me peace of mind, I just turn the lights off. I’m not a fan of lighted keyboards since I have a good desk lamp from MI. (it saves battery too).

User Purpose

Good For

  • People with arthritis, pressing the keys is effortless
  • Those who enjoy tak-tak-tak sound
  • Small sized table
  • Minimalists
  • Always on the go
  • Gaming

Not good for

  • Those with babies (it’s noisy)
  • Those who are used to have a number pad (this is a 60% keyboard, so don’t expect a number section on the right)
  • Sharing a room for night use
  • Library (who still goes to the library?)
  • Desk eaters, you might spill your drinks. It’s not water resistant.
