How much to repair the drive?
The 320 GB and 1 Tb drives are built in a tough plastic case but they are not shatter proof. The main problem of my unit is the loss of power from the USB port to the drive.
The main cause? The cable itself.
I had the cable replaced twice and after a few years, it will just bend and lose the connectivity of the wires. You will pay up to Php 120 for the cable spare part of the drive.
The Drivestation and MiniStation are the current lineup models of the brand. If you still have the old red or black portable drives, you can still find spare parts from local distributors.
There is not enough power going to the hard drive that’s why the computer does not detect it. The spare part needed is the actual cable where the connector PIN is damaged.
Can I claim for warranty?
If you still have the receipt, you can have the drive repaired after the usual 7 day replacement period. However, it will take several days since it may be sent to their service center abroad. It is a Japanese brand.
In terms of repair, technicians charge up to Php 1,200 to replace the memory modules or solder the disconnected circuit parts. You can have the drive repaired in most electronic shops in Manila, Quezon City and Caloocan.
Most of them are inside malls which can provide quick service.
